Sapito for Addiction / Sapito for Trauma

Sapito, a powerful sacred medicine that comes from the Bufo alvarius frog in Mexico, is one of the most important medicines for addiction and trauma release. When Lydian and I first started working with a curandera here in Mexico to learn about how to administer sacred medicines and do temazcals, we spent a lot of time both taking Sapito and administering it to other people. It was one of the sacred medicines that we worked with the most in those early days when sacred medicine work was still new to us.

In contrast to many other sacred medicines, Sapito is a short trip, but depending on the dose and individual physiology of the person working with the Sapito, the trip can be incredibly powerful. As a totally natural anti-addiction treatment, Sapito works through a number of mechanisms of action to slowly, over time, rewire the brain. One Sapito trip can help a person get clean for a few days, a week, or even longer by supplying the spirit, mind, and body with what’s needed. Multiple Sapito trips administered over the course of 6 months or longer produce a cumulative effect such that eventually, a person with an addiction can stop experiencing cravings, detox, and withdrawal symptoms forever.

What is a Sapito trip like?

As with all of the sacred medicines, it’s almost impossible to predict what your experience will be when you first work with Sapito for addiction or trauma. Sapito is a medicine that is also a consciousness, so when you take the Sapito, you are conversing with a Wise Counsellor about things that matter to you.

If you haven’t ever worked with the sacred medicines or with psychedelics, you may experience some anxiety and fear about your first trip. It can be hard to draw a perimeter around the fear as it mostly deals with The Unknown. Sapito doesn’t give people more than what they can handle though so you can be assured that you won’t “go too far”. However, you should also be aware that once you begin working with Sapito, if you have negative emotions that begin to surface in the days, weeks, or months afterward, this is a sign that you have more work to do with this sacred medicine. We recommend that people use any negative emotions that arise to signal that it’s time for another dose and another Sapito trip.

Unfortunately, some people “blame the Sapito” for a negative feeling that arises after a trip, but be aware that if negative feelings come up, it means that you need more not less of the Sapito. Negative feelings are your cue to do more work as trauma is coming to the surface for permanent release.

This approach to Sapito where you do a trip and then wait to experience additional negative emotions is based on trauma-informed psychology. Feelings of panic, odd and uncomfortable emotions that are hard to name, nightmares, angry outbursts, and other “negative” feelings and experiences following a trip are a signal to go and take Sapito again. Trauma is stored in the autonomic nervous system, the unconscious mind (which, as it turns out, is also the body), and it rises to the surface like bubbles in a bottle of water. Half the battle in terms of releasing trauma permanently is to notice these “bubbles” of trauma, respond to them, and use effective treatments (such as Sapito) to integrate what has been dissociated from the core part of the psyche. Modern humans have learned to dissociate from negative emotions. We run away from the negative emotional content inside our own minds and cut ourselves off from the negative material that would set us free. A person who’s ready to confront the negative material can do so using Sapito as a Guide. Sapito acts to permanently release the negative material and integrate it into the Core of who we are such that we no longer experience it as negative or as a source of conflict. The negative feelings are transformed into wisdom when we work with something like Sapito.

At first, modern humans who grew up in a technological landscape of options for dissociation and denial, work on their trauma almost exclusively with the sacred medicines. There are other types of work that can be done using the sacred medicines, but for people who have lived in a world that offers no option for trauma-release, no acknowledgement of trauma or stress, and no container for healing of any kind, the sacred medicines work first to make humans who have been “parted out” like cars, into integrated, whole beings. If you have an addiction, trauma-work using Sapito will make you less prone to cravings by integrating and releasing the “triggers” set off dissociated parts of you, the traumatized parts, that seek out drugs, alcohol, or other substances to try to push the negative emotions, those nasty bubbles, down. Sapito gives people a way to release the bubbles, one-by-one. As bubbles of trauma and stress are released, the triggers that set off cravings and behaviors around relapse, are also released…permanently. Releasing trauma is equivalent to releasing internal conflict and making peace inside of yourself.

What can Sapito do for me?

Sapito can do many things. But Sapito won’t do all the work for you. Your Intention when you work with the Sapito, is what drives your final outcome with this medicine. And then, your resolve to continue working with Sapito or other sacred medicines, also plays a role. Sapito can present you with wisdom, but if you’re not interested in wisdom or if you aren’t willing to confront what needs to be confronted in order to find wisdom, Sapito won’t force it on you.

Many people who are overloaded with trauma are not able to access their connection to the Divine anymore through sleep and dreams. Sapito can help restore a normal sleep architecture over the course of time so as to re-connect the person to environmental cues for sleep (like darkness, for example), seasonal changes that alter sleep patterns, and other aspects of nature that help us exist in the present moment. When people first start their work with Sapito, they usually experience a lot of fight-or-flight states throughout the day and at night for no identifiable reason. You might be sitting and relaxing in the evening only to find that your heart is beating uncontrollably fast for no reason that you’re aware of. Of you might find that when you do things that were once pleasurable, you end up “in the hole”, hopelessly depressed. States of numbness are also incredibly distressing. Sapito can help you permanently address these issues such that you no longer experience these kinds of paralyzing states anymore.

Sapito and the other sacred medicines don’t make us into better people. These medicines can, however, make our lives better. It’s up to us to decide how we apply the wisdom that we’re given. It’s up to us to decide how we manage ourselves in regard to relationships, love, and work. My experience with Sapito is that if a person wants to resolve issues in a love-relationship or issues related to their work, they’ll explore those topics and release trauma around that area of their life. Releasing trauma makes us less prone to repeating the past or engaging with patterns in our lives that are bad for us.

If you really want to heal a relationship with someone you love, but you constantly focus on money or your work relationships when you create an Intention for Sapito trips, then Sapito may not be able to help you with your love-relationship issues. Often, people do end up working on what really troubles them when they take Sapito, even if they create an initial Intention that isn’t in line with what they are really there to work on. But people can resist if they wish. Sapito works with you, not against you, and also not for you. A Sapito trip is an opportunity for you to be honest with yourself to the greatest extent possible in terms of what you want in your life.

If you don’t like something about your life, your relationships, or your work, you can approach Sapito with humility and gratitude to find answers to your problems and to find solutions that you may not have otherwise have access to.

Sapito Basics

Sapito is one of the sacred medicines that takes you to another world, but only briefly, usually for 15 minutes or less though some trips do last a bit longer than that. Sapito connects you to the Divine Source and it also connects the right hemisphere of the brain and the left hemisphere of the brain to reduce the extent of dissociation between the mind and the body. Sapito contains amino acids that help the brain produce neurotransmitters that can, in turn, stop the addiction cycle. It also contains DMT which helps us connect to The One Divine Source.

We work with several models that help us explain what’s happening during a Sapito trip in a more scientific, empirical way including Bert Hellinger’s Constellations therapy and Dr. Richard Schwartz’s Internal Family Systems therapy. We use our somatic training as well as training in trauma-informed therapies like Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing / EMDR, among other things, to work with our clients before and after a Sapito session.

Wear loose, comfortable, warm clothing to your Sapito session. Layers of clothing are a good idea so you can add or remove clothing if you feel hot or cold. We provide a blanket if it’s chilly outside.

The first puff or two of  the Sapito will feel “harsh” in your throat. Most people cough a bit the first few tokes that they take. But after the initial breath or two of Sapito, you’ll be able to breathe and hold it in for a few seconds. We tell you what to do and how to do it during your initial trips with Sapito. Ultimately though, you have a lot of control over your dosing even if you don’t really know what you’re doing at first. People unconsciously indicate when they’ve had enough.

You should avoid all street drugs and prescription drugs before you take Sapito. This can seem like a major challenge if you are trying to get past an addiction. If you plan to work with Sapito to overcome addiction, be sure to communicate with us honestly so we can guide you through a protocol to address your addictions and make it possible to avoid substances prior to your Sapito session. There are protocols that we work with to wean people off various types of drugs so that they can safely work with the sacred medicines to end their addiction permanently. It’s a process and it can move fairly quickly, but we ask for honesty and transparency in terms of drug use prior to working with Sapito for addiction and trauma.

How to Get Started

The first step is to contact us and set up a health coaching appointment. We’ll do a video call with you at this appointment to discuss your goals, the patterns in terms of your addiction, a protocol for how to get control over your addiction so that you can begin working with the sacred medicines, and other health issues you’d like to address. We’ll see if we’re a good fit to do this kind of work together and make a plan for travel to Mexico to receive Sapito.

We are located very close to Mexico City and we’ll send you plenty of resources to help you find your way to our facility from either the Benito Juarez airport or the AIFA airport or we’ll discuss the option of having us pick you up at the airport. We have lodging options on-site, but if our facility is full, we’ll help you find a suitable lodging alternative.
Contact us at info@medicinassagradas.com for more information or to set up an appointment to discuss your visit.
