Before I present the idea of doing psilocybin therapy for couples and for people in all types of relationships, I have to present the idea that if one person makes a change, other people in that person’s social system feel it. This is not a new concept and though we have not been mentally trained to accept the idea in developed nations, in fact it is true. I have, in fact, used psilocybin to change my own family system in a powerful way to heal members of the family who were not willing or able to use psilocybin. The changes were noticeable, powerful, and life-changing. In other words, even if another member of the relationship is not able to participate by taking mushrooms themselves, if you commit yourself to making positive changes to heal a relationship that has hit a downward spiral, mushrooms can be used to create an open space around you for another person to inhabit.
That being said, psilocybin won’t help you manipulate others or control other people to achieve self-serving goals, but it can help you create an inviting energetic space around you. Familial relationships that have been burdened by decades or centuries of ancestral trauma can be opened up and healed in ways that you never thought possible even through the work of just one person in the system using psilocybin.
Even more powerful, though, is couples psychedelic therapy online, which endeavors to work with both members of the relationship using psilocybin to open minds and hearts. If two people are committed to each other and willing to take psilocybin to repair a marriage or any type of intimate relationship, the mushrooms will step up to help. I often tell clients that when you no longer have solutions to a relationship issue and you get to that place where you feel like there’s no way out and no way to heal, psilocybin opens up new paths on the map. Psilocybin therapy for couples allows people to connect better sexually as well as intimately using words and logic, and in terms of embodiment and the ability to communicate a specific message using body language.
Soul Retrieval Online Using Psilocybin
Psychologically, every individual is made up of different “sub-selves” or “parts”. We regard these “parts” specifically from a shamanic perspective as “soul parts” or parts of our energetic essence. When we talk about how psilocybin couples therapy works, we have to acknowledge that there are many situations in life where we lose a part of ourselves. Some of these situations are extremely traumatic, others are like a day-to-day trauma that slowly causes an erosion in our energetic essence. When a soul part leaves, it may take away the part of us that laughs, has fun, or that has the ability to be creative and understanding too. And this can be a major loss from a relationship. Often, couples and people in relationships feel angry with each other because they miss a part of the other person that isn’t present anymore. Anger and a strong feeling of embarrassment is a symptoms of soul loss, but also a symptom that the soul part might be ready to come back with the proper effort.
Luckily, psilocybin can be used to do soul retrievals. A soul retrieval in shamanic medicine is usually performed by one person on another person because it can sometimes be hard to coax a soul part to come back after it’s left. Though it is possible to do a soul retrieval on yourself using psilocybin, it often takes a lot of work and a lot of psilocybin trips to create an environment that’s open and able to receive the lost part. Nonetheless, when a soul part returns, the other member of the relationship often notices and a part of their soul also returns.
These “soul dynamics” happen in groups, especially in families whether the other members of the family are also working with psilocybin or not. A person who wishes to make a family whole again can work on themselves using psilocybin. That person then functions as a “holographic” representative for the whole group. Many people believe that logical thoughts govern us, but in fact, the “felt sense” of our bodies – the wild, untamed human self – and specifically the autonomic nervous system feeds us thoughts that pop into our minds throughout the day and night. When I think of someone, they think of me unless their “felt sense” has been hijacked and is completely overwhelmed by past traumas. We might also say that I think of the other person because they think of me, but the mutuality of the exchange is much more powerful than any linear way of describing the transaction. Nonetheless, as you begin to clear out the trauma and restore soul parts to your energetic essence, the rest of the system to which you belong also begins to heal.
Healing a Family with Psilocybin
I know that it’s possible to heal a family using psilocybin because I’ve lived it. I had the broken family with the estranged family members who couldn’t speak to each other or even be in the same room together for any length of time. I’ve carried myself zombie-like through my life as the family tree went through a major storm, a series of events that all occurred within close succession in members of the family that never spoke and that never came together for any reason. I took a full dose of psilocybin every 3 days for 6 months with microdosing in between trips to work not only on my own excruciating pain as an individual, but also to open space for the rest of the family to heal.
And the family did heal. Major events of healing took place during that 6 month time frame after a lifetime of difficulty. New patterns of speaking and relating opened up between me and people I had stung and been stung by in my relationships. I stopped feeling suffocated in the relationships I was in and instead, began to feel open to spending time with the people I love.
Taking psilocybin is work. It requires effort to get past the resistance of doing it and then it requires effort to feel. But to be human is to feel and to experience feelings. If we experience too much pain, we send parts of our soul away to survive it. Then, we live a half-existence. Most of us have been traumatized since birth, which is traumatic for most babies as well as for most mothers. Fathers are also traumatized through the birthing process, a fact that’s often ignored and swept under the rug, which causes all kinds of issues in families. From the moment of our birth, we struggle to overcome the trauma of the experience and work around what we lack in our energetic essence. From the moment our children are born, we struggle to overcome the trauma of giving birth (as mothers and fathers) and the trauma that our children experienced and their subsequent reactivity to the world as a result of feeling terror at birth.
Healing from Addiction Using Psilocybin
Addiction is usually a symptom of trauma and our desire to overcome the symptoms that occur when the autonomic nervous system is hijacked by trauma. While psilocybin can open up the autonomic nervous system so that trauma can be released, many people with an addiction of any kind also work with Mucuna pruriens before, during, and after taking psilocybin mushrooms to reduce withdrawal symptoms significantly. Mucuna is usually taken at a dose of 6000 mg per day in 4 divided doses of 1500 mg each to treat addiction naturally. Mucuna should administered with a B100 Complex supplement, zinc, iodine, and magnesium daily. Psilocybin is then used to release trauma, a process that becomes easier and easier after 4-5 months of contemporaneous treatments with Mucuna pruriens.
Addiction impacts the entire family and often people with addiction have behaved in ways that cause what appears to be “permanent” damage in the family. Taking psilocybin as a family can repair familial damage due to addiction by opening up the mind and body to ideas and ways of thinking about everyone involved in the family that are beyond anything that talk therapy can do. Psilocybin allows everyone involved to experience a higher level of wisdom about what’s happened to cause the addiction, maintain the addiction, and now, to overcome addiction as a family. Insight comes through the felt sense of the autonomic nervous system which can communicate with the logical mind to produce a sensical narrative beyond the constraints of what culture dictates to us.
Often, addiction causes a significant rift among the family members and some family members may not be open to working with psilocybin for addiction because they believe (incorrectly) that psilocybin is addictive itself. Nonetheless, members of the family who have decided to work with psilocybin can do so for the betterment of the entire system, including to open up space for the addict to find his or her way out of the addiction (if they have not yet been able to do so).
When I had major family issues that I worked on using psilocybin, addiction was a part of the picture. When that journey started, I didn’t believe that it was possible to cure an addiction, but it is. Mucuna pruriens is a big part of curing an addiction, but both Mucuna and psilocybin mushrooms work together to open the mind to new ways of thinking and behaving. When one person in a group stops being reactive and begins behaving with more meaning and more purpose and greater synchrony with a direction that the entire family can benefit from, changes occur throughout the system. Some groups take psilocybin online as a family to open space for healing in families that are being torn apart by addiction, mental health issues, trauma, and more.
Summary: Couples Psychedelic Therapy / Family Psychedelic Therapy
In native groups in North and South America, psychedelics like peyote / mescaline, psilocybin, Ayahuasca, tobacco, iboga, and more have been used for centuries to ensure cooperation and synchrony in families and communities. Using psychedelics to heal a family allows groups of people who love each other despite having problems, to overcome their problems, shed centuries of ancestral trauma, and move forward with light and love. Couples who are struggling with so-called “toxic relationships” can remove the toxicities and then be able to give and receive love. Medicines like psilocybin are so fundamental to our mental health that they can’t really be viewed through the lens of purist individualism. Mushrooms themselves are a fungi that produce an extensive network of roots underground to connect tree to tree and flower to flower and to ensure that all of the members of a community of plants can speak to the other members. This is what psilocybin does for us in our relationships too. It doesn’t matter whether we are an odd shrub amidst towering trees or a sprawling grassland, we still have a voice and through the mushrooms, we are able to communicate about who we are, how we are, why we are that way, and how we can contribute productively to the overall whole.
